Giant Commission -- Complete Austrian Army

I was able to complete this army in three and a half months, about half the time it took to finish the French army.  The Austrian force is slightly smaller than the French army.  All that white is actually pretty easy to paint, and I was able to spend a few hours each day.

German Line Infantry

Hungarian Line Infantry

German and Hungarian Grenadiers

Grenzer and Jager

Artillery

Hussars

Chevaux-leger and Uhlans

Cuirassiers and Dragoons

The Austrian army includes 524 foot, 108 horse, and 13 guns.  The Russians are up next!

Giant Commission -- Austrian Cuirassiers

And here are the last figures in the Austrian army, 24 cuirassiers.  These troops carry the only cavalry color in Glenn's army.

I spent today flocking the entire army.  Tomorrow I will add the static grass, and on Thursday I will Dullcote the lot.  Look for pictures of the completed army very soon!

Giant Commission -- Austrian Dragoons

I have always thought these troops looked dashing in their white coats.  All six regiments of dragoons are here.

I painted the cuirassiers at the same time.  I'm just waiting for the glue to set on their flag, so I should have some pictures of them up tomorrow,

Giant Commission -- Austrian Chevaux-leger

I am trucking right along on this commission.  These 18 chevaux-leger represent all six regiments in 1809.  Five of the regiments have red facings (in two slightly different shades), and one has blue.

Next up are the heavy dragoons!

Giant Commission -- Austrian Hussars

Ah, Austrian hussars.  Is there anything better than Austrian hussars?  That is a rhetorical question.  Nothing is better than Austrian hussars.

Here, in all their colorful glory, are all twelve Austrian hussar regiments.

I do not know if I have made it clear on this blog, but I am really enjoying this massive commission.  Yes, it's a lot of figures, and yes, it's a bit of a downer not getting to paint anything for myself.  But these AB figures are all first rate.  It's a lot of fun to make my maximum effort on these.  And because Glenn wants to field one stand of each regiment, I get to paint EVERY uniform fielded during the Napoleonic Wars.  Whenever anyone asks me, "have you ever painted the x regiment," I can always answer with an emphatic YES!

The Austrian light dragoons are up next.

Giant Commission -- Austrian Uhlans

All the light cavalry now has their base coats.  For some reason, I caught on fire today highlighting these lancers.  The Austrians fielded four Uhlan regiments, all in green jackets and pants with red facings.  The only regimental distinction was the color of the top of the czapka.

1st (emperor yellow) and 2nd (green) Uhlans

3rd (crimson) and 4th (white) Uhlans

The light dragoons and hussars are up next!

Giant Commission -- Austrian Horses

No updates lately, but I have been painting.  I finished all 108 Austrian horses today.  I have also painted the helmet crests and plumes, along with the trousers for the medium and heavy cavalry.

Tomorrow I start on the hussars!
