Epic Battles Napoleonic French

I have a prospective client interested in using Warlord Games' Black Powder Epic Battles figures to field armies for the Commands and Colors system.

Readers will know that he vast bulk of my painting involves traditional metal figures in 15/18mm and 25/28mm. I am so far way from this plastic figure world that I wasn't really sure what the scope of the job would be. I knew the figures were 10mm, but that was all I knew.

After the client and I failed to reach each other by phone a few times, I figured I would just buy a set of figures to see what I would be working with. It turns out that each casting is a strip of ten men. That changes the scope of the job!

Here are a couple of test bases of French infantry, one base in tunics and the other in greatcoats.

They really are small! Here is the greatcoats base with a quarter dollar.

We will see if the prospective client and I can come to an agreement on price now that I know I won't be painting thousands of individual figures, only hundreds of strips.

20mm War of 1812 British

Jon Grossman sculpted these figures and hired me to paint them ats the 85th Light Infantry Regiment in 1814. These 44 figures were a breeze to paint. I've painted quite a few of Jon's sculpts by now, and they all look phenomenal.

Jon's instructions called for a light ink wash. I used heavily diluted "Sepia" wash from Vallejo, then picked out the highlights with the paint again. These should really pop on the table!

Heth's Division at Gettysburg, 15mm ACW

Lots of pictures follow. I finished up Mitch Erickson's commission this past weekend. He can now field Heth's complete division at Gettysburg for Regimental Fire and Fury.

I have been painting American Civil War figures since about 1996, and I think this is my finest work yet. The varied grey and butternut tones I got here? That's just how I've always wanted my Confederates to look.

The Blue Moon figures capture the period well. All the bases are Litko. The flags are GMB Designs.

519 infantry
8 guns with 24 crew
4 limbers with 16 horses and 16 crew
8 mounted generals

As a little bonus "thank you" for his business, I painted up 20 disorder markers for Mitch. They should come in handy as he plays his games!
