1/72 SYW Austrian Infantry

These figures are all soft plastics from HaT Industries. I wanted a quick project that I could work on while my kids did their schoolwork, and these fit the bill. I gave everything a "good enough" block paint job, stained them with Minwax Polyshades Tudor Satin, and based them up.

IR Erzherzog Karl

IR Leopold Daun

IR Harrach

IR Arenberg

IR Mercy-Argenteau

IR Moltke

IR Puebla

IR Türheim

I wish the soft plastic manufacturers had made packs like this long ago! The marching infantry boxes have just two poses, and the result is useable wargaming figures. I like these figures so much that I will sell off the 15mm and 25mm lead I had collected.

  1. Very nice, Scott! Let me know which 15s are on the auction block.

    1. They are just some Old Glory bags of unpainted lead. They're yours if you want them!

  2. I like the way the white is still there, despite the wash. Good job.
I've been posting a few pics of my own stuff, on my FB page...@Colinspaintstudio

  3. Very nice Scott...
They are surprisingly good for 1/72 scale soft plastic... as you say I wish they had made them like this back in the day...
I assume Hat also do the cavalry and Prussians...

    All the best. Aly

    1. I remember the days of Airfix Napoleonics when I had to buy x number of boxes to get enough figures to field battalions all in one pose.

    2. The American Civil War troops they are coming out with also look nice. They are keeping similar poses. https://hat.freeforums.net/thread/587/acw-marching-command-alan-buckingham

    3. Jon, I recall that too. What a pain that was! I think I switched to Old Glory 15mm back in 1998 just so I could buy a pack of all marching poses.

  4. What did you prime with as plastics can be a bit 'interesting' at times:-)

    1. I used Rustoleum 2 in 1 flat white. I always wash my plastics first in dish soap and hot water. I had some slight flaking with the hussars' sabers. Everything else stayed put.

    1. It was just a simple block paint job followed by a polyurethane wash, but it is effective!

  7. You used the HäT-miniatures just superb. I have myself a batallion of them in my collection. I don't like the material (it's horrible to glue the figures on something - I never had such a problem with other major manufactures of the scale). I'm excited to have found your blog. Maybe you will find my blog interesting too. :-)
