Glenn's army will have lots of Numidians, five units of javelinmen, four of light horse, and this one of archers.
I like my Numidians to look very simple, just undecorated tunic in a natural color, plain leather, and very simple shield designs.
All figures are Renegade. More Numidians will follow soon.
These may not be the flashiest looking figures, but I have a sneaking suspicion that this is what most ancient armies looked like.
I was under the impression the Renegade Numidians were sculpted with overly large heads, but these look great! I quite like that warm honey colored tunic choice. Nicely done as usual!

Great looking bunch; really subtle colors, but effective. Dean
ReplyDeleteSimple, elegant, and a perfect offset to the more colorful units with which they will share the battlefield.
ReplyDeleteJohn,
ReplyDeleteThe Renegade Numidians do have heads that look a little funky when they are unpainted, but painted up, they really work.
Funny how painting makes all the difference with many figures.
Looking at them a bit longer, it strikes me that their skin tone is perfect.
ReplyDeleteThese are great! Ccan't wait to see the rest.
Nice work.
ReplyDelete@Glenn: indeed. was about to ask how the skin tone was done, as I have a pile of Numidian cavalry to paint!
ReplyDeleteGreat looking figures!
ReplyDeleteThe skin tone is quite a bit darker than my northern European types. I start with a base color that I mix myself from Dark Brown, Territorial Tan, and Medium Flesh. It comes out pretty close to Territorial Tan. I highlight the skin with Dark Flesh.
ReplyDeleteNice painting..love the skin tone
