40mm ACW Union Infantry Done ... for Now

Usually I don't apply a third shade to 28mm figures, but these 40mm figures needed something a little extra.  This final highlight was applied VERY sparingly, and it really helps the figures to pop.

That's as far as I can take these figures until I get the flags and bases from my client.  It took eight days to get them this far.

40mm ACW Union Infantry First Highlights Done

Today I finished up the highlights on these figures.  I could call these done now, but I'm going to add a sparing ultra highlight to help these really pop!

40mm ACW Union Infantry First Highlights

Yesterday I put on the first set of highlights.  Today I'll try to finish up the flesh, blanket rolls, and rifle slings.

40mm ACW Union Infantry Block Painting

It took most of Friday and Monday, but I was able to finish the blocked in base coat on these 27 figures.  Now for the highlights!

40mm ACW Union Infantry

This is my first commission in a while, and it's a new scale for me: 40mm Civil War from Sash and Saber!

The figures arrived in Wednesday's mail, and, anxious to see what they were like, I had them prepped and ready for paint that evening.

I gave them a couple of coats of flat black primer. Although the weather is cold and wet here in Idaho, the paint dried well.

Last night I was able to finish their hair, initial coat on the face, and any exposed socks.  I also started with the base coat of Prussian blue.

I hope to finish the base coat today!

28mm ACW Union Infantry in Greatcoats

The 168 man project turned into a 192 man project with the addition of 24 standard bearers.  The flags arrived just before Christmas, and I was able to put the finishing touches on the bases today.

All figures are from Raven Banner Games Miniatures (available from Old Glory UK), and they are excellent sculpts.  This was one the better Kickstarters that I have backed.  Even after painting my way through this big set, I still have about 600 infantry figures left to paint!

The flags are from GMB Designs, and as always they are perfect!  I tried to choose regiments that were present at Stone's River.

My lighting failed me on that last photo.  I'm very happy with how these twelve regiments turned out.  Tomorrow I will start prepping the next batch of Union troops!

6mm Union Infantry

I have been working on the 560 figures since mid-October.  I don't know why, but 6mm has been tough for me to paint.  Maybe if I skipped highlighting, they would go faster.  The Baccus miniatures are very nice, and they look the part once painted.  These are their western Union infantry packs.

I still have five cavalry brigades and five generals with staff to paint.  Then I can call this project done ... for now. I will have enough troops painted to game Shiloh, which was my initial goal.  I will have to more than double these initial forces to be able to play any out battle.
