Gettysburg Game

It's not too often that I serve up a stinker of a scenario, but that is exactly what happened last weekend.  Jon and Kevin joined me to game the first infantry action at McPherson's Ridge on July 1st, 1863.  I took the Union forces, and Jon and Kevin took the Confederates.

Looking east from the Confederate lines

Archer's brigade in McPherson's woods.

Davis's brigade ready to sweep in on the flank.

The Iron Brigade and Cutler's brigade defend Seminary Ridge.

Jon's artillery cut Cutler to pieces.

The Iron Brigade inflicted heavy losses on Archer.

Davis's brigade was unstoppable.

By the end of the game, Cutler's brigade was gone.

The entire action took us an hour to play.  Archer (Jon) came straight on and fixed the Iron Brigade in place.  Pegram's artillery battalion pounded the Union positions, knocking off a couple of stands each turn.  Davis (Kevin) kept up the pressure on the right.  Three Union regiments simply melted away under all that fire.  Reynolds and Cutler were both killed.  It looks as though the Union army will have to pull back to Mine Run.

  1. Sounds like it was a decisive battle won by swift action.

    1. Kevin, with Davis's brigade, rolled for a move at the double quick on the first turn. That was a portent for the whole battle.

  2. Not an ideal result from the Union perspective!

  3. Scenario design is perhaps the most difficult aspect of our hobby! Was it the deice or the situation that made it end so quickly... or something else?

    1. I took the scenario from Mingus's Gettysburg book. I think Jon is right about the Confederate tactics. I didn't have a chance!

  4. I'm someone who has lived a life seemingly in the background, I must say this final indignity I have suffered almost too much to endure. You see, I have been sickly and weak since the day I was born and doomed to go through my life weakling. I seemed to have always suffered from one illness or another and could never play with the other children as I so desperately wanted to. Mother always made such a big fuss over me, also, making the situation worse as the other boys teased me mercilessly after they saw it. I was browsing  the internet searching on how I could be transformed into a powerful person when I came across the email of a man named Lord Mark. who was a VAMPIRE so I told him that I has always dreamed of becoming a  VAMPIRES, All i did was just to follow the procedure that i was been told, and i bet you that procedure I took change my entire life to something i ever desire, freedom, sickness free, pains free, fame, influence, connections and even more that i can. Thanks to Lord Mark. Do you want a life full of interesting things? Do you want to have power and influence over others? To be charming and desirable?
